Fluoroscopy
is a type of x-ray used to study the inside of the body. A small
beam is passed through the part of the body that needs to be examined.
An image is then sent to a computer screen where it can be seen
in detail. When used with a contrast solution, fluoroscopy helps
diagnose problems with your
Bowel
Kidneys
Gallbladder
Stomach
Upper GI
Joints
There
are several ways the test can be done (see below). In barium x-rays,
fluoroscopy allows the doctor to see the movement of the intestines.
If you think you may be pregnant, please inform your doctor or the
radiologist before your test.

* Be sure to ask your personal physician how you should adjust your
medications on the day of the exam.
*
If you are diabetic, you must review with your physician or nurse
how to adjust your medications and diet for the day of the procedure.

You may experience some discomfort with this type of test. If you
have concerns about this test, please talk with your doctor.
You will be asked to lie on a table or to stand against it. A camera
which takes the video or picture will be placed above or in front
of you. The Radiologist will move the camera over the part of your
body to be imaged. X-Rays are used in Fluoroscopy. If you are or
think you may be pregnant, you must tell your doctor who asked for
the test and the Radiologist. After your test you may go back to
normal activities right away. If you were given barium, please drink
more water than usual. This will relieve any constipation resulting
from this test. Also, if you have had barium with your test, your
bowel movement may appear light-colored for several days.
